What I want to dedicate on this journal is about Poses. I have come across a lot of artists' comments about how there is such a thing as pose theft. Because we really have an infinite number of ways how we bend our bodies *sarcasm*
It's hard to claim a pose as solely yours, when by coincidence another artist has done the same thing when they didn't even know you've done the pic or didn't even know you existed.
Maybe tracing a pic? But then what if the artist was just practising and probably can sketch exactly the same.
I can think up of all these scenarios, which will just confuse the hell out of me and you and think how ridiculous it all sounds.
What I'm definitely sure about is... claiming that someone stole a pose is just going over board. It's the same thing about colours. How can you steal colours when there is only a finite number of colours.
Now I love drawing and I use art as a hobby so that i can enjoy it more. But lately it's like what the artist said down below, there are people getting WAAAAY TOOO over protective over their characters.
There is this one artist who simply took all the words out of my mouth. [link] Currently the artist's website is down and he/she is working on it. Here are some quotes I wanted to show. I had to edit it becuase of some swearing
"Now lets move along to pose theft. As I stated, there are only so many ways you can position a body and have said body interact with objects.
You draw yourself as a wolf holding a staff. Someone comes along and draws themself as a cat holding a staff. Someone else comes along and draws themself as a coyote holding a staff. Sooner or latter a person comes out with a similar pose to your wolf character holding the staff, except they are a leopard. THAT IS NOT THEFT. Get that through your thick skulls. It's not even the same species as you!
POSES ARE NOT COYRIGHTED.
Here's another retarded example of how you would look in real life:
I'm standing leaning against a wall with my arms crossed waiting for a friend. A man comes along and stands, leaning against the wall in the same or similar position to me. If I were a complete CHOAD I would furrow my brow and whine and bitch that he has to stand in a different position because that is MY pose. I used it first.
You know what that man would say to me? "F&*^ YOU". Exactly, and that goes out to all of you people out there who think poses are copy-rightable.
Oh, another note. It seems quite a few (though not all) of the complaining are furries. They keep insisting that whoever they find must change their colours or character. Try that on a therian and I guarantee you'll get a nice big F&*&* YOU for your trouble. BAH. You're a fur, go change your own character if you're that pissy about a few spots.
Fancy telling someone who for all you know could've had those colours and patterns well before you, to go change their own drawings. Especialy when they aren't even stealing your f*&^&^ character! Now it's another matter entirely if the purrson replicated your character identicaly, but otherwise pull your heads out of your ass enough to see you aren't the art gods of the net.
Art is suposed to be fun, a creative image of the imagination. Words made into pictures, an extention of the mind and heart. Thanks to people like the ones I outlined above, this has dwindled down to almost a buisness-like pushiness and over protectviness to the point that even people just starting out and dabbling experiments feel threatened and afraid to even show their hard work for appreciation and coment.
This has to stop. To all young talaents out there, ignore this nazi-like stupidity and keep on drawing!"
I found it funny at first to what this artist said and it made sense.
